PayPal - Hide and Seek

Problem:
PayPal offered a person-to-person money transfer service that was easier than bank transfer. PayPal research showed that those who used P2P represented higher value to their businesses, but they needed to increase the number of regular users.

Task:
To PayPal users to use the P2P service to send money to their friends and family.

Context
Using P2P meant that you only needed your friends mobile number to transfer money to them, and it removed the awkward conversations about bank details.

Insight:
Millennials were more likely to talk about sex or politics with friends than finances, and felt the most awkward when money entered the chat.

Strategy:
To encourage millennial PayPal users to avoid the awkward by using P2P to swerve money chats.

Idea
Hide and Seek

A humorous campaign that showed millennials playing hide and seek with each other every single day to avoid the awkward.
Housemates hiding in bedrooms, workmates ducking into the toilets, friends avoiding texts. All because the tiny debts turn into a big deal when they're not paid back.
